Vision Screening<\/h1>\n

The first goal of vision screening is to identify children who have or are at risk of developing amblyopia; this problem can lead to permanent visual impairment unless it is treated during early childhood. Important pathologies to be screened include strabismus, cataracts, glaucoma, ptosis, refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, as well as other serious diseases like tumors or neurological diseases.<\/p>\n

Vision screening is more effective when performed periodically throughout childhood. The sooner a problem is detected, the greater the likelihood of prompt treatment to maximize the children\u2019s visual ability. First vision screening takes place at the nursery, when the Paediatrician inspects the newborn\u2019s eye, pupil and red reflex. Every child must be screened again until the age of two.<\/p>\n
