December 2017. Refractive Errors in Childhood (Myopia, Astigmatism and Hyperopia) | Dr. Paulo Freitas Costa
Dr. Paulo Freitas Costa, Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus specialist at CUF Porto’s Iberoftal and CUF São João da Madeira, was invited for Porto Canal’s TV show “Consultório” on 27/12/2017.
Significant ametropia (or refraction errors such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism) must be detected at an early life stage of a child to minimise its effect on learning and visual development. It generally includes the use of eyeglasses. It is natural for our children to adapt to given conditions and so they do not complain nor show direct signs of low visual acuity; these situations may exist without parents noticing it… It is thus fundamental to perform prompt visual screening.
